“The restrictions were imposed on certain importing countries not on a whim, but after we knew that the national veterinary services of these countries had considerably changed export control policies which resulted in shipments of feed products of dubious quality that do not meet the Russian safety standards,” said Sergey Dankvert.

For instance, our experts did not find a rabbit DNA in canned meat that was supposed to contain rabbit meat as was indicated on the label.

Tests revealed that other popular canned pet food which as per labels was supposed to contain several types of meat, instead of meat contained plant-based ingredients - soybeans and maize.

Whereas, during inspection of the production site of one Spanish manufacturer the Rosselkhoznadzor experts found that instead of meat and bone meal as declared on the label, the canned pet food contained poultry feather meal.

As a reminder, earlier Rosselkhoznadzor imposed restrictions on importation of feed products to Russia from a number of European countries including the USA and Canada. The regulator noted that the importing countries have significantly diminished the level of state veterinary control over products exported to Russia.
