Ministry of Agriculture proposed amendments to ASF control rules

The Ministry of Agriculture proposed to intensify surveillance on pig farms located within a 5-kilometer zone surrounding the pig production facilities with high biosecurity levels. A draft order with the corresponding amendments to the veterinary legislation on African swine fever (ASF) was posted at regulation.gov.ru.

The document proposes ASF sampling be conducted twice a year on each farm located within a 5-kilometer zone surrounding IV compartment pig farms, which have a high biosecurity level. This doesn’t apply to farms located in ASF-affected territories.

The draft order also provides for ASF samples to be collected once a year on all pig farms in Russia.

Besides that, the document modifies requirements for wild boar hunting in the affected zone, bans feeding food waste and wild animal products to pigs, and also reduces the time for creating pig populations on close-house farms.
