Yorkshire pigs to be bred in Kuban

The Trading House “Yaseni” has built a selection and genetic center for Yorkshire pigs breeding in Yeysk (Krasnodar Territory). This is an elite breed that is known for its delicate meat with a thin layer of fat, says a post published in the official Telegram channel of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

The cost of the new selection and genetic center reaches 1,5 billion rubles. Its production capacity will be 40 000 heads.

Three breeds will be grown in the center: Yorkshire, Landrace, and Large White pigs.

“The first two are classified as elite breeds. They are known for delicate meat with a thin layer of fat. The latter is the most widely spread in our country. These animals are low-maintenance, grow fast and rapidly put on weight,” – the officials of the Ministry explained. They also added that the new center will allow for partial substitution of pigs supplied from abroad.

11 raising and breeding facilities were built. The animals are intended both for the creation and maintenance of their own breeding stock and for providing sows for commercial pig farm stocks, the Ministry said.
