The newly established National Center for Genetic Resources of Farm Animals will focus on creating and maintaining a national catalog of particularly valuable genetic resources of farm animals. Additionally, its experts will be responsible for developing methods for obtaining, storing, and utilizing these samples. They will also be tasked with monitoring the condition of genetic resources and identifying and selecting new samples.
The government has a four-month timeline to decide on the funding and scope of activities for the establishment of the center. The document also specifies a six-month period for the development and approval of the center’s program.
The coordination of the center’s activities will be overseen by a cross-departmental commission dedicated to the establishment, preservation, and utilization of collections of farm animals’ genetic resources. According to a separate presidential decree, this commission will comprise representatives from federal executive authorities, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the National Research Center ‘Kurchatov Institute’.
