The document bans unrestricted air transportation of salmon caviar from Kamchatka Territory by private individuals on a pilot basis. The experiment is aimed at the prevention of illegal red caviar circulation in the region, which accounts for 90% of its harvesting in Russia.
According to estimates provided by the initiative group, private traders annually move up to 500–2000 tons of caviar from Kamchatka Territory via air transport, and part of it harvested by poachers. According to earlier statements, the damage caused to the national budget by illegal salmon caviar harvesting is estimated at 15 billion rubles.
The experiment on restricting the export of red caviar from Kamchatka Territory will be in place until August 1, 2025. The corresponding procedures are to be established by the government.
