“What we did to address the issue of particularly dangerous diseases when we applied compartments in pig farming is discussed now in relation to poultry,” said Sergey Dankvert.
Compartment refers to the animal health status of a farm. Russia currently has a system in place for determining the animal health status of pig farms. This system comprises four levels of compartments. A pig farm classified as compartment IV represents a facility with a high level of protection. Such farms are authorized to sell their products without restrictions, even in the event of disease outbreaks in the same region where their production facilities are located.
It’s worth mentioning that Russian poultry farmers requested the implementation of a similar compartment system to that used in the pig sector.
As Veterinary Medicine and Life reported earlier, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture has developed a draft of veterinary regulations aimed at determining the animal disease status of poultry farms.
The proposal involves assessing and identifying the animal disease status of various poultry farming facilities, including land plots, buildings, premises, and structures used for the rearing and housing of poultry. These also include production, processing, slaughtering, and storage facilities.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the implementation of a compartment system in poultry farming presents trade benefits to producers, including export advantages.
