“On January 5, the second shipment totaling 19.36 tons (316,800 pieces) of table eggs was imported through the Yarag-Kazmalyar border crossing for sale in Russia,” says the report.
The first delivery of table eggs from Turkey arrived on January 3.
Russian imports of eggs from Azerbaijan started at the end of December.
The importation of eggs will help stabilize the situation in the Russian market. In 2023, egg prices surged by over 50%. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the situation as ‘a failure in the government’s performance’. To stabilize poultry product prices, the Cabinet of Ministers has waived import duties for shipments of fewer than 1.2 billion eggs from January 1 to June 30, 2024.
