It is mentioned that Sergey Dankvert is part of the high-ranking Russian delegation participating in the 28th regular meeting of the heads of the Russian and Chinese governments.
The Rosselkhoznadzor has reminded that it took more than 7 years for the Service to work out the possibility of Russian pork supplies reaching the Chinese market. The multi-stage process included negotiations, visits by Chinese representatives to Russia to assess the Russian pig products safety control system, and providing comprehensive information requested by GAC.
As a result, in September 2023, China lifted sanitary restrictions on African swine fever (ASF) that had been in place for Russia since 2008.
In December, GAC inspectors visited Russia to assess the veterinary control system and the operations of Rosselkhoznadzor’s research institutions. They toured pig farms and conducted audits on the corresponding production sites.
“The final step to opening the Chinese market for pork imports will be the approval of the appropriate veterinary certificate and certification of Russian producers,” outlined the Rosselkhoznadzor.
The earlier forecasts of the National Union of Pig Breeders suggested that Russian pork exports to China could potentially reach 150,000–200,000 tons, allowing total annual Russian pork exports to reach 400,000–500,000 tons.
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), China ranked first among the world’s pork importers in 2022, purchasing more than $6.5 billion worth.
Besides that, a protocol on veterinary requirements for Russian exports of feed for non-productive animals was signed in Beijing.
