Researcher’s forecast on avian influenza for Russian poultry industry

According to Viktor Irza, Chief expert of the Federal Center for Animal Health (FGBI ARRIAH, Rosselkhoznadzor), as he said in an interview to Veterinary Medicine and Life, the forecast on avian influenza in Russia is unfavorable.

“The forecast for avian influenza in Russia in 2023 is unfavorable, due to the worsening of the situation in the world, with bird flu being registered in many different countries. Some rise in reported in Europe, but South America is the epicenter of outbreaks,” the scientist said.  

The expert underlined that avian influenza was first registered in South America. The outbreaks are also reported in neighboring countries. An outbreak revealed in Turkey was the first one since 2015.

New outbreaks continue to be reported in Japan.

At the same time, in some areas, the epizootic is fading out, the scientist noted. Such as in North America, for instance.

“However, the situation in Europe and South America remains a serious threat to the Russian Federation, especially before the spring migration of wild birds,” Irza said.
