At the same time, the production of black caviar was reduced by 11% to 23.8 tons, the report says.
According to Rosstat, the production of all kinds of caviar in the first half of the year surpassed last year’s figure by 10%, reaching 43,200 tons. This is the highest result since 2019.
The increase is mostly due to pollock caviar production. According to the Pollock Catchers Association, the first half of the year has seen an increase of 10% to 33,500 tons.
At the same time, the production of canned fish and preserves decreased by 9% compared to the previous year to 124,900 tons. The most significant decrease was recorded for natural canned fish and canned fish in tomato sauce, which decreased by 23,9% and 22,7%, respectively.
According to VARPE, the decline in canned fish production in Russia has been recorded for the last 3 years, following a sharp increase during the pandemic in 2020.
“The booming demand for canned products during the pandemic caused an increase in production, which is now returning to its previous volumes,” said German Zverev, President of VARPE.
