In March alone the price for pet food has increased by 7,35% and by 8,31% since the beginning of the year, Rosstat said in a statement.

The Service started monitoring pet food prices when they skyrocketed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last week pet stores urged the Central Bank to reduce the acquirer fees (bank charges for accepting credit card payments in a store) from 2.5% to 1%. This measure would help to contain pet food prices. According to market participants, the prices increased by 50-80% for imported pet food, and by 10-30% for those of domestic origin.
