It is noteworthy that the attitude of Russians toward the quality of domestic goods is different within various age groups. The older the people, the more confidence they have in the high quality of the products manufactured in Russia. “Russians over 60 say that 2.6 times more often than people aged 18-24 (52% vs. 20%),” Kirill Rodin, Government Affairs Director at VCIOM, said at a press conference.
He also noted that these numbers have remained practically unchanged since 2015. Today, only every sixth citizen believes that domestic goods are not as good in quality as imported ones.
When asked how they feel about counter-sanctions, 59% of Russians confirmed their approval of them. They spoke in support of restrictions on the import of agricultural products, raw materials, and food from countries that imposed sanctions on Russia. At the same time, 31% of people don’t approve of these counter-sanctions. The number of adversaries decreases with age, the researchers note.
Among the advantages of counter-sanctions, Russians name a large range of domestically produced goods that appeared on the shelves in stores.
Kirill Rodin stressed that Russians prefer domestic products when choosing food, e.g., fish, meat, and dairy products. The major criteria are price (59% of respondents), quality (53%), and freshness (37%) of products. Besides that, Russian consumers take into account product sustainability, health benefits, taste, fast cooking, and usability in a balanced diet.
