‘Mercury’ to be Used for Trademark Protection

At the request of the Vologda region administration, Rosselkhoznadzor is exploring the possibility of launching a pilot project to protect trademarks using the VetIS Mercury system. This was announced by the head of the service, Sergey Dankvert, during a meeting of the Public Council under Rosselkhoznadzor.

“After consulting with the governor of the Vologda region, we are exploring the possibility of initiating a project aimed at safeguarding trademarks through the utilization of the Mercury system,” said the head of the service.

For instance, the name ‘Vologda butter’ has been officially registered as a trademark, permitting only a select group of producers located in the Vologda region to employ it. Any production or distribution of butter labeled with this trademark that originates from external sources or lacks authorization from the trademark holder is considered a violation of existing laws.

“The analysis of data obtained from the Mercury system has revealed that besides the authorized producers of ‘Vologda Butter’, at least 35 other companies are illegally manufacturing and distributing products under this trademark,” Sergey Dankvert explained.
