Rosselkhoznadzor clarified that in 2021, cheese exports were up 20% at 24.37 thousand tons. In 2020, Russia shipped out 20.22 thousand tons of the product abroad.
The top three largest buyers of Russian cheese are Kazakhstan (9.83 thousand tons shipped out in 2021), Ukraine (8.16 thousand tons) and Belarus (2.76 thousand tons).
Cheese volumes shipped to Azerbaijan increased 2.4 times (from 224 tons in 2020 to 551 tons in 2021), while Russia cheese exports to Uzbekistan increased by 2.3 times (from 410 tons to 983 tons), added Rosselkhoznadzor.
Also, the regulator emphasized that in January 2022, cheese exports have continued to grow. Since the beginning of the year, as of January 21, the Russian producers shipped out 1.1 thousand tons of cheese abroad. This is 6% higher compared to the same period last year (1.04 thousand tons).
In 2021, butter exports were up 28% at 4.65 thousand tons compared to 2020 amounting 3.63 thousand tons. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the major importer of the Russian butter is Ukraine. “3.05 thousand tons of butter were exported to Ukraine. This was 37% higher than in 2020 (2.23 thousand tons),” noted the regulator.
Besides, Kazakhstan has been actively importing the Russian butter. The volumes of butter shipped to this country amounted to 771 tons. This figure was 31% lower (588 tons) compared to 2020.
The regulator also pointed out that another major buyer of the Russian butter is Azerbaijan. Last year Russia shipped to Azerbaijan 319 tons of butter. This was almost twice more than a year earlier (161 tons).
Russia butter exports have continued to grow in January 2022. As of January 21, since the beginning of the year, the Russian butter supplies abroad increased by 44% at 161 tons compared with 112 tons for the same period last year.
