“The center will be responsible for the development of the corresponding list of Russian national halal standards, harmonized with international standards, aimed at reduction of certification costs of manufacturers through recognition of national certificates by other countries,” the organization said.
The center will be engaged in product standardization, certification and quality monitoring, as well as certified Russian halal products promotion inside the country and abroad, Roskachestvo explained.
According to Roskachestvo, the annual turnover of the global halal industry exceeds $2 trillion. The growth rate of this sector is not less than 5% per year. Besides that, global Muslim population growth will lead to an increase in halal production, which is expected to reach 20% of all globally manufactured products by 2025.
“Russia has managed to double the export of products that meet halal standards over the past 3 years. Russia supplied a record $180 million worth of halal products to the Persian Gulf countries alone in 2021. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are the largest importers. And Russia isn’t going to limit its supplies to Middle Eastern countries. The export of Russian halal to Arab countries is expected to reach $400 million by 2024 and $700 million by 2030. The efforts of our new National Competence Center will contribute to the confidence of both Russian and international consumers in halal products,” head of Roskachestvo Maxim Protasov was quoted as saying.
According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, Russian supplies of halal products to the global market increased in 2022 by 50% compared to 2021. The most essential halal products are poultry meat and offal, as well as halal beef, lamb and horse meat.
