“Considering the possibility of upcoming reduction in the number of vaccines imported to Russia, the import substitution capacity of FGBI ARRIAH – the leading Russian manufacturer of vaccines against FMD and other diseases of farm animals – have been estimated. The potential of the institution to increase its production capacities will allow for complete or significant substitution of vaccines against most common vaccine-preventable diseases,” the service said in a statement.
The analysis of the vaccine market for the prevention of infectious diseases in farm animals and birds conducted by Rosselkhoznadzor revealed the presence of four major foreign suppliers in the Russian market with production sites in the USA, Belgium, Mexico, France, the Netherlands and Spain.
“The vaccines against infectious diseases in birds constitute 99% of import volume, the swine vaccines are next in line, followed by the vaccines for cattle,” the ministry said.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor’s calculations FGBI “ARRIAH” is capable of producing not less than 9.2 million doses of poultry vaccines, about 98 million doses of swine vaccines and 30 million doses of vaccines for control of infections in cattle.
“That would be a 100% self-sufficiency in cattle vaccines, 75% in swine vaccines and more than 50% in vaccines for poultry,” the representatives of the service explained.
The Rosselkhoznadzor emphasized that the use of domestic vaccines will reduce the cost of agricultural production for Russian farmers.
