In 2022, the number of African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks in Russia decreased by half. At the same time, the risk of the introduction of ASF, HPAI, and FMD viruses into Russia remains high due to the unfavorable status of the bordering countries in the Asian and Transcaucasian regions.

Following the meeting of the anti-epizootic commission under the Cabinet of Ministers, Rosselkhoznadzor was authorized to carry out unscheduled field inspections of legal entities and contractors involved in livestock breeding and slaughter and the production, storage, and sale of red meat.

Besides that, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rosselkhoznadzor, and the Ministry of Economic Development are assigned to work out an implementation system for continuous government control over companies and entrepreneurs engaged in such activities.

Legal entities engaged in livestock breeding and slaughter at penal system facilities are to be inspected by the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers specified.

According to earlier reports, the new action plan aimed at improving veterinary safety was approved by the government. Veterinary safety measures are to be increased to prevent the introduction of dangerous animal diseases into the country.
