The total increase in prices for dry pet food has amounted to 17.08% since the beginning of the year.
As previously reported by V&L, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) is investigating the reasons for the increase in prices for pet foods and veterinary medicines.
Besides that, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation has analyzed the growth of prices for pet foods and veterinary drugs. Prosecutors issued 16 warnings to manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers in order to prevent price gouging.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the rise in feed prices was driven, among other reasons, by an escalation of the costs of raw materials and transportation services, together with increased demand.
At the same time the Office mentioned the efforts of the Rosselkhoznadzor in preventing a shortage of pet foods in the Russian market. Rosselkhoznadzor resumed deliveries of 503 items of feed, feed additives, and raw materials produced by 114 European manufacturers.
