According to the resolution, “genetically modified organisms designed for environmental release and approved for the production of food raw materials and products, such as soybeans and soybean meal, are exempt from registration for animal feed production.”
The new regulations also pertain to imported goods.
“This will greatly reduce costs and eliminate limitations on the import of products containing GMOs,” Sergei Mikhnyuk, executive director of the National Feed Union, told Veterinary Medicine and Life. He also pointed out that the feed industry has positively received these changes, as the resolution removes the requirement to re-register such components for feed production.
“We are currently planning to seek clarifications on the provisions of this resolution from the regulator to ensure that all market participants interpret it correctly and to avoid misunderstandings at the border that could lead to the return of goods to the sender,” Mikhnyuk added.
The new rules will remain in effect until January 1, 2025.
